Welcome to the Academy of Men

The purpose of Junior Training Camp (JTC) is to introduce Royal Rangers who are graduates of the 6th grade to their roles in their group and outpost leadership.

A camp graduate should be capable of serving as a junior leader in a boy-led, adult-facilitated outpost. He should have asked himself at some point during the camp each of these questions:

What are my God given (natural) talents and strengths and how am I developing them?

Do I have what it takes to be a godly man?

What is God's plan for me?

Academy camp provides an environment for boys and young men to come together from many different outposts and backgrounds and learn to work together to fine-tune leadership skills. The Bible teaches us: The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ.       1 Corinthians 12:12

As Christians we have all been given Spiritual gifts which we need to identify in each other and form one unit READY to do God’s work. Basic camping skills are taught at the outpost level and will be applied at these camps, but are not the purpose of this camp. According to the National Office, the purpose of Junior Training Camp is to introduce Rangers entering Adventure Rangers (and older) to their roles in their group and outpost leadership.

A camp graduate should be capable of serving as a junior leader in a boy-led, adult-facilitated outpost. He should have asked himself at some point during the camp each of these questions:

JTC Theme

Leadership it caught, not taught. Leaders are expected to set a Christlike example, seeing the best in others, encouraging them to use their talents to further the kingdom of God. Tasks set out for the patrols are challenging, but all staff and candidates are encouraging, supportive and uplifting.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.Philippians 4:8

Most importantly, JTC has to be the most fun the boy has ever had camping. The camp is purposely not over-scheduled and the tasks that are designed to build self-esteem are challenging, but a lot of fun. Candidates will learn while at play.

What will be taught at JTC?

Classes, activities and services will be used to bring home the following principles:

  • A good leader is one who takes responsibility for the outcome at the end, no matter what the result. He always gives the glory to God and his team.
  • God has given everyone unique abilities – they are wonderfully and fearfully made. The job of the leader is to draw from the strengths of the individuals on his team.
  • Leaders in the church need to know their role in helping the Pastor. They need to know how to act, and how to build relationships with others as they disciple them to be Christ-followers.
  • Spiritual leaders read the Bible and pray every day. We nurture that habit at JTC.
  • Lifelong friendships are formed at Academy. We are a band of brothers and show team spirit for our team and Royal Rangers.
  • Advanced Academy camps are challenging. JTC will provide introductory skills training and a brief experience of each of these camps.
