The Art of Campcraft: Green Merit Tips for Outdoor Living
The Green Camping Merit equips Royal Rangers with essential skills and knowledge to confidently enjoy and respect the outdoors. This merit focuses on , outdoor safety, and basic camping techniques. The merit is a requirement to earn the Gold Medal of Achievement. Participants will learn to:
- Select and prepare a campsite responsibly.
- Properly set up tents, tarps, and other shelter options for various weather conditions.
- Build and extinguish campfires safely and responsibly.
- Identify and use essential camping tools, including knives, axes, and cooking equipment.
- Recognize and prepare for potential outdoor hazards, such as wildlife encounters and weather changes.
- Understand basic first aid for common camping-related injuries.
Earning the Green Camping Merit challenges Rangers to grow in self-reliance, leadership, and teamwork while fostering an appreciation for God’s creation.
