Home Merit: Building Wisdom, Securing Safety, and Creating Comfort!

Home maintenance is an essential Life-Skill.  The Bible describes a home in Proverbs 24: 3-4   By wisdom a house is built.    Through understanding it is made secure. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with priceless and beautiful things. God places a high priority on families.

A house is the physical structure, but the relationships that are nurtured inside make it a home. Our homes can provide a feeling of belonging, warmth, and security; a place where people feel they can be themselves and be supported. Home is a safe haven and a comfort zone.

Keeping our family safe in a home is a priority. We spend most of our time in our homes; and we want it to be a safe space, both emotionally and physically.

All accidents are preventable, and these supplemental Merit materials describe ways to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

Home Safety:

Many things in the home contribute to situations that may cause injuries:

  • Clear and well-lit walkways/stairways can help to mitigate trips, slips, and falls; a leading cause of injuries around the home.
  • Safe storage and proper use of cutting utensils and appliances prevent cuts and burns.
  • Power tool safety rules [SAW CUTSS]; similar to hand tool safety rules.
  • Proper use of a ladder and elevated hunting platform (tree stand). Falls from ladders is one of the leading causes of occupational accidents [OSHA].
  • Fire Safety describes the nature of fire with combustible materials and identifies potential fire hazards around the home.
  • Energy Ref: Energy Appliance loading and energy analysis.

Proverbs 24:3-4 lists wisdom, understanding and knowledge as three essential contributors to an established, well-stocked house. With a basic understanding of a house; you will be able to create a safe and comfortable home.
